What is 1080p?

1080p is the magic word behind full high definition video. Whilst the number 1080 may be quite clear [since the screen gives a matrix of 1920x1080 pixels] the ‘p’ in 1080p states that the image is constructed progressiveli without the interlacing that caracterizes 1080i video formats

In the last 3 years this has become a real common term in the geek world most of the average joe still doesn’t understand how much better it could be to see any kind of content  such definition. This has happened mainly for two reasons.

At first there were screens but no content: there was a[nother one] war between two different formats [HDDVD and BlueRay] so no one but early adopters had content to play with; screens were quite expensive and beside few well informed tecnology addicted and techy savy people could  embrace this new technology.

Once HDDVD went gone, the market was filled with the so  called HD-ready / low budget / low quality screens. Those screens were able tu run at 1366×720 pixels, A big step forward if you looked at the old DVD [or NTSC/PAL] screen resolution, buth noth that much better, expecially it you run your old DVD player or low cost BlueRay player that were unable to scale properly yout 1080p Blue Ray Disc.

Tho make short the whole story: in the last two years, the older products have finally gone out from the market, and now anyone can approach this totally new world, ant 1080p is the little secret word behind everything.
